Business management is one of the principle inputs as well as factors that should be taken into consideration as regards productivity level improvement in Small Scale Business Enterprises. Therefore this justifies as to why businesses employ management perspectives of planning, controlling and organizing in their business operations besides considering labor and capital alone because without management other inputs like capital and labor can be mishandled and lead to failure in business performance as well as productivity improvement in businesses. The purpose of this study was to establish the contribution of business management towards productivity levels in Small Scale Business Enterprises. Both qualitative and quantitative methodologies were used to analyze the closed and open ended questions on the survey, statistically using percentages, mean, frequency and SPSS.
Through the use of a descriptive research design, the study examined the enhancement of the three business management perspectives of planning, controlling and organizing contribution towards productivity levels in Small Scale Business Enterprises. Therefore, the findings of the study indicate that, while there are other factors or inputs which contribute towards productivity levels in business enterprises like labor and capital, Business management has majorly contributed positively towards improving productivity levels in Small Scale Business Enterprises. Planning showed a positive contribution which was showed by a large extent as regards productivity and its overwhelming benefits, controlling as a business perspective contributes largely due to its benefits of ensuring that the operating systems are attaining the desired goals while organizing gave a positive contribution by giving a standard deviation of 0.328 and a mean value of 1.12.
However the study discovered that most of the business enterprises do not realize the value, relevance and benefit of business management due to limited knowledge and exposure about the business management perspectives. The study therefore recommends that Small Scale Business Enterprises should ensure employment of competent and skilled personnel who are able to execute the business management perspectives. Encourage and sensitize workers about the benefits resulting from the use of business management perspectives and where possible implement and communicate the use of business management perspectives for purposes of productivity improvement in Small Scale Business Enterprises.
